This is Jaiwen Hsu and he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his left
distal femur when he was 11 years old. He endured a year of aggressive chemotherapy, as well as limb salvage surgery.
To this day, he is still struggling with pain in his leg and he needs a crutch to get around. With continued physical therapy, however, we are very hopeful that he will be able to walk normally soon. He is 21 now and focused on moving forward.
A favorite quote of Jaiwen is: “You didn't come this far just to come this far." We think this quote so beautifully summarizes the work we are trying to do in fighting this disease. Each of the faces highlighted throughout July have endured a hard battle against this disease. Some of them are currently NED; we rejoice with them. Some of them are currently in another round of their battle; we cheer them on as they continue to fight. Others fought hard only to have Osteosarcoma take their lives. Their families love and miss them terribly, and they commit, every day, to not let Osteosarcoma win. It is for all of these warriors that we continue to fight, because we didn’t come this far just to come this far.
